A 13-year-old girl was raped in Kissena Corridor Park in Flushing, Queens, on June 13, 2024. The suspect, later identified as Christian Inga from Ecuador, was arrested thanks to the quick actions of community members who recognized him from surveillance photos released by the NYPD. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m., and Inga allegedly used a knife to threaten and rape the girl in a secluded area of the park. Two 13-year-old victims were present during the attack, but they managed to escape and provide descriptions of their attacker.
Inga, who had previously expressed his desire to return to Ecuador due to a drug addiction, was staying at a single-room occupancy dwelling near a deli in Corona. When residents recognized him from the surveillance photos, they detained him until police arrived. Inga suffered minor injuries during the arrest attempt and was later taken into custody.
The NYPD confirmed that Inga had previously opened up to neighbors about his drug addiction, which may have contributed to their recognition of him. The suspect is currently facing multiple charges including rape, sex abuse, robbery, menacing, unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a weapon.
The community's quick response and cooperation with law enforcement played a crucial role in the apprehension of Inga. Police officials praised their efforts and thanked them for providing crucial information that led to the arrest. The investigation is ongoing, but authorities believe that this incident is an isolated occurrence.
