Adobe, a leading software company, has recently announced the release of new artificial intelligence (AI) tools for its video editing software, Premiere Pro. The new features include Object Addition & Removal and Generative Extend. Object Addition & Removal uses smart masking and tracking to replace moving objects in a shot or remove unwanted items. Generative Extend allows users to extend clips seamlessly on the timeline, making video editing more efficient.
Adobe's CEO, Shantanu Narayen, spoke about the new tools during an interview with CNBC. He mentioned that monthly subscriptions for these features start at $4.99 and are available on Acrobat, Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome extensions as well as in a free mobile version in beta that supports voice commands.
In addition to Premiere Pro, Adobe also announced new generative AI features for its video editor later in 2024. These include Object Addition & Removal and Generative Extend, which allow users to add or remove items from a video and extend clips respectively. The tools use real pixels generated using Adobe's upcoming model, saving time compared to manual editing.
Adobe is not the only company investing in AI for video editing. Other companies like OpenAI, RunwayML, and Pika are also developing generative AI models for this purpose.
The new tools come as part of Adobe's strategy to integrate generative AI across Creative Cloud and give creative professionals more power and efficiency. The Premiere Pro team has been working closely with the professional video community over the past year to understand their needs and develop solutions that address common pain points in video editing workflows.
Adobe's move into generative AI for video editing is a significant development in the field, as it has the potential to reduce workflow tedium, streamline tasks, and increase creative control. The new tools are expected to be available later in 2024.
