Amari Cooper secured additional $20M guarantees from Cleveland Browns after holding out of minicamp
Browns also traded for Jerry Jeudy who received a three-year extension worth $58M
Cooper had career-high 1,250 receiving yards and five touchdowns in first season with Browns
Cooper remains scheduled to hit free agency in March of 2025
Amari Cooper, a talented wide receiver in the NFL, recently secured a pay raise from his current team, the Cleveland Browns. The agreement came after Cooper held out during mandatory minicamp in search of better compensation. According to multiple reports, the Browns restructured Cooper's contract to include an additional $20 million in guarantees and a $5 million raise for the 2024 season.
Cooper originally signed a five-year, $100 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020. He was traded to the Browns in March 2022 for a fifth-round pick and swapped sixth-round picks. In his first season with Cleveland, Cooper had a career-high 1,250 receiving yards and five touchdowns while being named to his fifth Pro Bowl.
The Browns veterans reported to training camp on Tuesday, July 23rd. Cooper was present at the team's practice facility as a full participant after reaching an agreement with the Browns. He remains scheduled to hit free agency in March of 2025.
Cooper's decision to skip minicamp came amidst several other wide receivers receiving lucrative contracts during the offseason. The Browns also traded for Jerry Jeudy, who received a three-year extension worth $58 million. Despite the team's revolving cast of quarterbacks, Cooper has been Cleveland's best offensive player since joining the team in 2022.
The Browns and Cooper reached an agreement just in time for training camp, avoiding a potential holdout situation. The restructured deal ensures that Cooper will be a valuable asset to the team both on and off the field as they prepare for the 2024 NFL season.
