Amazon, the multinational technology company, has been facing employee resignations due to work pressure and the implementation of a new office policy. A former employee claimed to have developed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) due to the intense work pressure, leading to their resignation. The employee was reportedly put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP), and their manager reacted strongly to their decision to leave.
In response to these allegations, Amazon stated that the employee's account does not align with the majority of employees' experiences. The company's co-founder, Jeff Bezos, had previously initiated a program called 'Pay to quit', where employees are offered money to leave the company. This initiative aims to retain only committed and motivated individuals within the organization.
In addition to the work pressure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) employees have been leaving their jobs due to a new policy known as 'Return to Office' (RTO). This policy requires employees to work from an office at least three days a week, sparking concerns about work-life balance, commute times, and childcare responsibilities. Experts suggest that this policy could result in talent retention issues and higher recruitment costs for the company. Other tech companies, such as Google and Microsoft, have also implemented similar hybrid work models.
Many employees have expressed their dissatisfaction with the RTO policy on Amazon's internal Slack channel, with some stating that it is the sole reason for their departure. The AWS division has seen a notable increase in resignations, with employees citing RTO as the primary factor in their decision to leave. However, the company's spokesperson refuted claims of high attrition and emphasized the benefits of in-office collaboration. Some employees have criticized the lack of respect shown by management, particularly regarding RTO and previous mass layoffs.
