Apple has announced delays in the release of its artificial intelligence (AI) features, Apple Intelligence, which were initially planned to be part of the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 launches in September. According to multiple reports from Bloomberg and other sources, Apple Intelligence will now be available for customers as part of software updates coming by October. The AI features will arrive a few weeks after the initial iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 releases.
Apple Intelligence is planned to be available for early testing this week via iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 betas, allowing developers to provide feedback on the stability of the features before their public release. The AI features will only be available for specific Apple devices, including iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad and Mac with its M1 chip and later versions.
The delay in the release of Apple Intelligence is reportedly due to stability issues. In June, Apple had announced a slew of new features and software enhancements for its iPhone and other devices to bolster sagging sales. The AI features were expected to be a major part of this push, but their delayed release may impact consumer expectations.
Apple is not the only tech company experiencing delays in the rollout of AI features. In late June, Apple had also delayed launching three new artificial intelligence features due to European Union tech rules that require it to ensure that rival products and services can function with its device.
Despite these delays, Apple remains committed to its AI push and plans to roll out the full set of Apple Intelligence features through multiple updates into 2025. The company is also expected to introduce new hardware, such as the iPhone 16 line up and iPhone 15 Pro, which will support Apple Intelligence features.
