Apple Intelligence, a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature from Apple, will not be launched with the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 in September. Instead, it is expected to be released as part of software updates in October. The delay allows Apple more time to address any potential bugs and ensure stability for the new features.
Apple Intelligence uses generative AI to create text, images, and other content for users on command. It also prioritizes certain notifications, offers tools that can summarize web pages and voice notes, improves writing capabilities, revamps Siri with OpenAI's ChatGPT integration, and is in development for the Vision Pro.
The new features will be available to developers as early as this week through beta versions of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1.
Apple initially planned to launch Apple Intelligence with the initial release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, but concerns over the stability of the new features led to the decision to delay their release.
Bloomberg reported that Apple plans to make Apple Intelligence available for iPhone, MacBook, and iPad users with devices featuring M1 chips or later versions. The AI-integrated features include an enhanced version of Siri, web page and voice note summaries, custom graphics generation, and iPhone Mirroring on MacOS Sequoia.
Apple Intelligence was first announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2024. The delay in its release may impact sales of the new iPhone 16 models initially released with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, as some users might have been attracted to these devices due to the promised AI features.
