Apple News Plus Introduces Offline Mode and New Game Quartiles: Access Content Anytime and Test Your Spelling Skills

Apple News Plus, a subscription news service by Apple, has introduced two new features: Offline Mode and the game Quartiles. These updates are available with iOS 17.5 or later for News Plus subscribers in the U.S. and Canada.

Offline Mode allows users to access recent and personalized News content without Wi-Fi or a cellular network, including Top Stories, Apple News Today audio briefings, full magazine issues and narrated articles from publishers, and puzzles like Quartiles.

Quartiles is an original spelling game where players form words by selecting tiles containing two to four letters. Points are collected based on word length. New puzzles are available every day, and users can also share a Quartiles puzzle with other News Plus subscribers.

Apple has released iOS 17.5 to fix 15 security vulnerabilities, some of which are serious. One issue in the Kernel could allow an attacker to execute code, while another in AppleAVD could enable an adversary to execute arbitrary code with Kernel privileges if a user downloads a malicious app.

To find Quartiles in the News app, open it and tap the search/following tab. Choose Puzzles at the top and look for Quartiles. If you don't already have a News Plus subscription, you may be offered a free 3-month trial before being asked to pay $12.99/month or bundle it with Apple One plans.

Apple recommends turning Find My off when taking an iPhone to repair stores, but new Repair State mode in the Find My app allows users to prepare their device for repair instead.
