In a move to bolster their receiving corps, the Arizona Cardinals have signed veteran wide receiver Zay Jones to a one-year deal worth up to $4.25 million, according to multiple reports.
Jones visited several teams before making his decision, including the Tennessee Titans, Dallas Cowboys, and Kansas City Chiefs. The 29-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars after being released by the Oakland Raiders in 2019.
During his time with the Jaguars, Jones recorded impressive numbers in 2022, setting career highs with 82 receptions for 823 yards and five touchdowns. However, he missed eight games due to injury that season.
In his first year with Jacksonville in 2021, Jones caught a career-high 47 passes for 547 yards while helping the team clinch their first playoff berth since 2016. Injuries limited him to eight games in the following season.
Jones was arrested on misdemeanor domestic battery charges in November 2023 but the case was dropped in March 2024. He was released by the Jaguars shortly after they selected Brian Thomas Jr. during the draft.
The Cardinals, who selected Marvin Harrison Jr. with the fourth overall pick in April's draft, are looking to add depth and experience to their receiving corps behind their rookie star.
Jones will join Michael Wilson, Greg Dortch, Chris Moore, and Tejhaun Palmer in the Cardinals' wide receiver room. He is expected to compete for a starting role alongside Harrison Jr., Kyler Murray, James Conner, and Trey McBride.
