In a separate incident, the Jinqian River in Taiwan saw the collapse of a bridge on Friday night resulting in at least 12 deaths and over 30 others missing. Vehicles were sent plunging into the river after days of heavy rain and flooding. Rescue efforts are ongoing with over 1,600 personnel involved.
Both incidents come amidst extreme weather conditions that have caused widespread damage in China including collapsed highways and homes.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered all-out rescue efforts for both incidents.
