Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump, has declined to participate as a delegate at the Republican National Convention due to prior commitments. The announcement came after Barron was selected by the Florida Republican Party as an at-large delegate for the event.
Barron's decision not to attend marks his first public withdrawal from politics since his father's presidency. He had been largely shielded from public view during his childhood years in the White House.
The Republican National Convention is scheduled to take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 15-18. Several other members of the Trump family were also chosen as delegates, including Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump.
Barron's graduation from Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida is set for next week. The elder Trump had received permission from a New York judge to attend the ceremony despite ongoing hush money trial proceedings.
Despite his decision not to serve as a delegate, Barron has shown an interest in politics and occasionally offers advice to his father. In an interview with Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, Trump shared that Barron “does like politics” and sometimes provides him with suggestions.
Barron's withdrawal from the Republican National Convention does not affect his father's campaign or the GOP as a whole. The event will still proceed with other delegates representing various states and territories.
