Blackmagic Design, a leading company in professional video equipment, has recently released its camera app for Android devices. The app offers advanced features for pro-level video recording on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones.
The Blackmagic Camera app brings granular manual controls, audio levels, current status and recording parameters, frame guides, frame rate, histogram, ISO levels, shutter angle tint and white balance to Android users. It also offers manual lens selection and focus peaking for enhanced functionality.
Users can record directly to their phone's local storage or upload videos to Blackmagic Cloud for collaboration on DaVinci Resolve projects with editors worldwide. The app is free and supports phones running Android 13 or later, including Samsung Galaxy S23, S24, Google Pixel 7/8 lineups.
Blackmagic Design's CEO Grant Petty expressed his excitement about the new app: “We are excited to be able to give customers with Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel phones the same controls for shooting digital film as our professional cameras.”
The Blackmagic Camera app offers a heads-up display (HUD) that makes it easier for users to access various shooting settings. The app also supports recording directly to Blackmagic Cloud, making footage quickly accessible for editing and post-production work at another facility.
It's important to note that the availability of the app is limited to Samsung Galaxy S23, S24 and Google Pixel 7/8 lineups running Android 13 or later. Blackmagic Design has not yet announced plans for expanding compatibility to other Android devices.
