Frank Reich has been fired as head coach of the Carolina Panthers following a 1-10 start to the season.
Reich was hired to improve the team's offense and develop Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick.
Special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will serve as interim head coach.
The Panthers also fired assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown.
This is the second consecutive year the Panthers have fired their head coach mid-season.
The Carolina Panthers have dismissed their head coach, Frank Reich, following a disappointing start to the season with a 1-10 record. The announcement was made by team owner David Tepper after a 17-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans. This marks the second consecutive year the Panthers have fired their head coach mid-season, with Matt Rhule being dismissed after a 1-4 start to the 2022 season. Reich's tenure ended with a 1-10 record, making him the first NFL head coach to be fired in back-to-back seasons since the 1970 merger. This is the third head coach fired during the season under Tepper.
In the interim, special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will take over the head coach responsibilities. Senior assistant Jim Caldwell will act as a special advisor to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown. The Panthers also made changes to their coaching staff, dismissing assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown.
Reich was initially hired to improve the team's offense and develop Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick. However, the Panthers are now assured a franchise-record sixth straight losing season. The team's future strategy and plans for the rest of the season are yet to be announced.
