Chiefs Defensive End BJ Thompson Suffers Seizure and Cardiac Arrest at Team Meeting (0:35)
Kansas City Chiefs defensive end BJ Thompson is in stable condition after suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest during a team meeting on June 6, 2024. The incident occurred at the Chiefs' practice facility.
According to multiple reports, Thompson was taken to the hospital by ambulance following the medical emergency. The Chiefs canceled their scheduled practice session for that day and rescheduled it for the next day.
Thompson, 25, was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft from Stephen F. Austin State University. He appeared in one game during his rookie season with two tackles to his name.
The cause of Thompson's seizure and cardiac arrest is currently unknown, but medical staff on site attended to him immediately upon the incident.
This marks the latest health scare for the Chiefs following a tumultuous offseason. The team has faced controversy surrounding defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs' animal cruelty allegations, wide receiver Rashee Rice's multicar crash in Dallas, and kicker Harrison Butker's controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College.
The Chiefs are set to begin their mandatory minicamp on June 11 through June 13.
