In the lead up to the 150th Kentucky Derby, father-daughter duo Larry Birkhead and Dannielynn made their annual appearance at the Barnstable Brown Gala. This year, Dannielynn paid homage to iconic pop star Janet Jackson by wearing a dress that once belonged to her.
The tradition of attending the Kentucky Derby together started when Dannielynn was just three years old. Over the years, they have made it a cherished family event.
Dannielynn's black gown, which featured intricate detailing and a plunging neckline, was previously worn by Janet Jackson in 2001. Larry Birkhead had purchased the dress from a charity auction to support diabetes research and the University of Kentucky's Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center.
The father-daughter duo posed for photos on the red carpet, with Dannielynn looking every inch the grown woman she has become. Larry shared his pride for his daughter on social media, praising her as funny, smart, pretty and proud of how she's turned out.
Despite their busy schedules leading up to the Derby weekend, they still found time for some fun activities. They raced cars around Disneyland's Autopia ride and took pictures together before heading to Churchill Downs.
The Kentucky Derby holds significant meaning for the Birkhead family, as it marks another milestone in their journey together. With Dannielynn recently graduating from high school, this year's event is particularly special.
