In a major shakeup in the NBA, two teams have completed a blockbuster trade involving star guard Dejounte Murray.
According to multiple reports, the Atlanta Hawks have traded Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Larry Nance Jr., Dyson Daniels, and two first-round picks.
Murray, who averaged a career-high 22.5 points and made a career-best 201 3-pointers last season for the Hawks, was reportedly clashing with star guard Trae Young in Atlanta.
The Pelicans are expected to benefit greatly from this trade as they add a proven All-Star point guard who can help improve their ball movement and defensive prowess. Murray's arrival also raises questions about the future of CJ McCollum and Zion Williamson in the Pelicans' backcourt.
The Hawks, on the other hand, are looking to rebuild around Young after a disappointing 2023-24 season that saw them miss the playoffs for only the second time since 2019. The team is reportedly still in discussions with other teams regarding potential trades involving McCollum and John Collins.
The first-round picks acquired by the Hawks will give them additional assets to use in future trades or to build around Young and their other young players. Nance Jr. and Daniels, who were part of the trade package going to New Orleans, add depth and versatility to the Hawks' roster.
The NBA offseason is always full of surprises, but this trade is sure to be one of the most significant moves made so far.
