DeMar DeRozan, a six-time NBA All-Star and former Toronto Raptor, has agreed to a three-year, $74 million deal with the Sacramento Kings in a sign-and-trade deal. The Kings will be sending Harrison Barnes to the San Antonio Spurs and Chris Duarte, along with two second-round picks and cash considerations, to the Chicago Bulls.
DeRozan spent three seasons with the Chicago Bulls after being traded from the San Antonio Spurs in 2021. In his time with the Bulls, he averaged 24 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game on a team that finished ninth in the Western Conference with a record of 46-36.
The Sacramento Kings are looking to add leadership and experience to their roster as they look to improve upon their playoff appearance last season. DeRozan's addition will provide them with a proven scorer and playmaker, joining forces with De'Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, and Keegan Murray.
The Chicago Bulls are now in the midst of a rebuild process after losing their key player in DeRozan. In return for his departure, they will receive Chris Duarte from the Sacramento Kings. Duarte was an All-Rookie selection with the Indiana Pacers in 2021 before being traded to the Kings last season.
The San Antonio Spurs are also making a move in this deal by acquiring Harrison Barnes from the Chicago Bulls. Barnes spent three seasons with the Sacramento Kings before being traded to Chicago, and he will now reunite with Gregg Popovich and join forces with Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama.
DeRozan was a ninth overall pick by the Toronto Raptors in 2009 and has played for three NBA teams throughout his career. He has averaged 21.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists through his NBA career.
