A tragic incident occurred at Disneyland on June 5, 2024, when a long-time employee identified as Bonnye Mavis Lear fell from a moving golf cart and sustained fatal injuries. The accident took place in the backstage area of the theme park near Critter Country.
Bonnye, who was 60 years old and had worked at Disneyland Resort for 24 years, most recently supported membership services at Club 33. The private members-only club is located above Pirates of the Caribbean in New Orleans Square and opened in May 1967.
According to reports from various sources, including the Orange County Coroner's Office and Anaheim Police Department, Bonnye was traveling on a rear-facing seat of the golf cart with three passengers when it came into contact with a bump or dip in the road. As she reached out to grab the handrail for support, it gave way, causing her to be ejected from the vehicle.
Bonnye was taken to a local hospital in grave condition and later succumbed to her injuries on June 7, 2024. The driver of the golf cart was not injured and no drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.
Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock expressed his condolences for Bonnye's family and cast members, stating that they are focused on supporting them during this difficult time.
The Anaheim Police Department is currently investigating the traffic collision. Rae Delgado, a Disney California Adventure attractions cast member who did not know Bonnye personally, wrote on Facebook that she suffered a fractured skull and brain swelling as a result of the accident.
Bonnye's tragic death serves as a reminder of the importance of safety while operating golf carts or any other vehicles within Disneyland Resort or similar theme parks. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and colleagues during this time.
