Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X Corp., has been under fire recently for endorsing an antisemitic post on social media. This has led to a series of repercussions, including calls for his resignation and the suspension of advertisements on X, Musk's blogging site.
Kristin Hull, founder and CEO of Nia Impact Capital, criticized Musk's behavior and the lack of action from Tesla's board. Similarly, Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz called on Musk to resign.
In the wake of these events, IBM suspended its advertising on X after a report revealed that its ads were appearing next to pro-Nazi posts. The report was published by the left-leaning nonprofit Media Matters for America, which identified IBM as one of the companies whose ads were appearing next to posts promoting Hitler and the Nazi Party.
In response to the criticism, the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), a nonprofit online watchdog, has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit from X Corp. The lawsuit accused CCDH of trying to drive away its advertisers by publishing reports critical of the platform's response to hateful content. CCDH claims that X's lawsuit is riddled with legal deficiencies and attempts to punish the nonprofit for its First Amendment protected speech.
Musk has previously threatened to sue the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and blamed them for a 60% drop in revenue at X. He has been criticized for promoting an antisemitic conspiracy theory and accusing Jewish communities, the ADL, and minorities of 'anti-white' messaging without providing evidence.
