Fast-fashion retailer Shein, originally founded in China and now headquartered in Singapore, has confidentially filed for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the United States. The company is working with Goldman Sachs Group Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Morgan Stanley on the listing. The IPO could take place as early as 2024.

Shein has gained popularity due to its trendy clothing offered at ultra-low prices. The company ships most of its products directly from China to shoppers, a strategy that has helped it avoid unsold inventory and import tax in the U.S.

The company was valued at more than $60 billion in May and is hoping for a valuation of as much as $90 billion in the U.S. IPO. However, the current worth of the company is unclear and is a central point of debate among Shein and its advisors. If successful, Shein is expected to become the most valuable China-founded company to go public in the U.S. since Didi Global's debut in 2021.

This move comes amid a struggling market for IPOs in the U.S. and increased scrutiny on Shein from U.S. lawmakers. In August, Republican attorneys general from 16 U.S. states asked the SEC to audit Shein. Despite these challenges, Shein's decision to file for a U.S. IPO indicates its ambition to expand its global reach.
