The Florida Panthers made history on June 24, 2024, as they defeated the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final with a score of 2-1. This marked the first championship win for the team in their three-decade long history. The victory came after a grueling playoff season that saw them avoid joining the Detroit Red Wings as the only teams to lost the final after taking a 3-0 lead in the title round.
The celebrations began immediately after their win, with players taking turns hoisting Lord Stanley's Cup and sharing it with fans. One of those players was Matthew Tkachuk, who had been traded to the Panthers two summers ago with this goal in mind. He took the Cup to Fort Lauderdale Beach and dipped it into the Atlantic Ocean as a sort of baptism for the trophy in Panthers franchise history.
The following day, Tkachuk and his teammates continued their celebrations at a local bar, The Elbo Room, where they showered fans with beer from the second-floor balcony. The team then took the Cup to Fort Lauderdale Beach and dipped it into salt water to get rid of the sticky beer feeling.
The Panthers' championship tour has only just begun. They are set to have an official championship parade on Sunday, June 30 at 11:00 am in Fort Lauderdale. The parade route will start at A1A and Riomar Street and extend down A1A with the parade culminating at SE 5th Street.
