Ford is issuing a recall for over 456,000 Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles due to a battery detection issue. The body and power train control modules in these cars may fail to detect changes in battery charge, potentially leading to an unexpected loss of drive power or electrical accessories. This can increase the risk of crashes.
The recall covers approximately 403,000 Bronco Sports manufactured between February 2020 and March 2024, as well as over 53,000 Mavericks produced from February 21 to October 21, 2o21 to October 2o23.
Ford is committed to ensuring customer safety and satisfaction. Dealers will recalibrate the impacted vehicles' body control module and power train control modules at no cost. Notification letters are expected to be mailed on May 13, 2023.
As of February 8, Ford was not aware of any injuries related to this issue but noted that there were 917 warranty reports, 11 field reports, and 54 customer complaints. There were also two property damage claims and three unverified fire reports.
This is not the only recall affecting Bronco Sport owners. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating Ford's proposed remedy for a recall of nearly 43,000 select Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs due to gasoline leaks from fuel injectors that can increase the risk of fires.
