Sixth Victim Identified and Recovered in Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse
A sixth victim, José Mynor López, 37, of Baltimore, has been identified and recovered from the site of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. The bridge collapsed on March 26, 2024, after a container ship struck one of its piers.
López was one of six construction workers who lost their lives in the tragic event. His body was located by salvage teams on May 7, bringing closure to his family and loved ones.
The other five victims were identified as Alejandro Hernández Fuentes, Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, Carlos Daniel Hernández Estrella, and Miguel Ángel Luna González. All six men were immigrants from Central America.
The recovery efforts have been ongoing since the collapse and have involved complex challenges due to the location of the bridge in the Patapsco River and the presence of debris from both the bridge and the container ship Dali, which struck it.
Col. Roland Butler, Jr., superintendent of Maryland State Police, expressed his condolences to López's family and acknowledged their loss as a significant milestone in the recovery process.
The Francis Scott Key Bridge is an essential transportation link on the East Coast and its restoration is a priority for authorities. The goal is to restore full access to the channel by the end of May.
