The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has led to a critical situation in Gaza's hospitals, particularly Al-Shifa Hospital. According to Doctors Without Borders, the lives of dozens of babies are in danger due to power outages. The World Health Organization and United Nations agencies have recorded 137 attacks on health care facilities in Gaza since the fighting began, resulting in 521 people killed and 686 injured.
Israeli troops are engaged in intense battles near Al-Shifa, where thousands are trapped and a nearby major medical center has been forced out of service due to a lack of fuel. The World Health Organization (WHO) has lost communication with its contacts in Al-Shifa hospital. International rights groups warn of a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.
Two major hospitals in northern Gaza, Al Shifa and Al-Quds, have closed to new patients due to Israeli bombardment and a lack of fuel and medicine. Israel claims it is targeting Hamas militants in the area and has advised the hospitals to evacuate. Israel alleges that Hamas has placed command centres under and near the hospitals and is using them to hold around 200 hostages.
The conflict has also reignited tensions on Israel's northern border with Lebanon. Nearly 200,000 people have fled from northern Gaza to the enclave's southern districts in the past three days, according to the Israeli army. Pro-Palestinian solidarity rallies took place in London, Paris, Marseille, and other French cities.
The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called the situation a 'genocidal war' and urged the US to end Israeli 'aggression'. Saudi Arabia and several other Muslim nations have collectively called for an immediate halt to military operations in Gaza, dismissing Israel's actions as not justified self-defence.
