Protests in solidarity with Palestinians have spread from the United States to universities around the world, including Lebanon, Jordan, Europe, Australia, and Canada. The demonstrations call for an end to U.S.-backed Israeli aggressions on Lebanon and Israel's genocide on Palestinians.
In Lebanon, hundreds of students gathered at university campuses across Beirut to protest against the conflict in Gaza. Jordanian authorities have cracked down on activists, with at least nine students arrested and five expelled or suspended for participating in pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
Mass demonstrations have taken place on university campuses across the UK, including Oxford University, Newcastle University, Warwick University, and University College London. At UCL, protesters called for the school to sever its link with Tel Aviv University and cut all economic ties with weapons manufacturers supporting Israel's war effort.
In France, students at Sciences Po Paris university clashed with riot police as they set up an encampment in support of Palestinians. Sit-in protests have also appeared in the Australian cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Canberra. Students have called for their universities to divest from Israel and disclose and cut ties with weapons manufacturers doing business with Israel.
In Canada, student protesters set up a camp on a common at the University of Toronto in solidarity with Palestinians. Activists at colleges across the world have issued demands for their universities to divest from assets that sustain Israeli apartheid, occupation, and illegal settlement of Palestine.
Despite these protests, Paris Sciences Po university has rejected demands to review its partnerships with Israeli universities. Interim director Jean Basseres announced the rejection of protesters' demands to form a working group on relations with Israeli universities. Some students started a hunger strike in response to Basseres' decision and called for a public vote on reviewing partnerships.
