Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE), an AI-powered feature, is set to expand its reach to over 120 countries, including Singapore, Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The expansion is expected to roll out in the coming weeks, starting first in English in the U.S. The SGE also offers support for four new languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian. This global expansion follows positive feedback from its debut in India, Japan, and the U.S.

The SGE allows users to interact with an AI using natural language and receive fully formed answers with references cited. Users will be able to tap on underlined terms in a phrase and indicate the exact meaning they are trying to convey. The system has been updated with new features such as AI-powered summaries of paywalled articles, definitions of unfamiliar terms, and the ability to generate images and write drafts. These upgrades aim to make SGE more interactive and will first be available in the U.S.

The AI-powered search will be an opt-in offering via Search Labs and will initially be limited to English. Google claims that the AI-powered search will provide greater context and reduce clutter from sponsored results and ads. However, ads will still appear in search results.
