Google Messages Tests New Feature: Edit Sent Texts Within 15 Minutes

Google Messages, the default messaging app for Android devices, is testing a new feature that allows users to edit sent texts. This functionality was first introduced on Apple's iMessage and WhatsApp in the past. The ability to edit messages is available only when both parties in the conversation have the functionality.

Users can edit messages by long-pressing on a message and selecting the 'Edit' pencil button that appears next to copy, delete, star, and overflow options. Once editing is complete, users tap the 'Send' button to send the revised message. An 'Edited' label appears below the message to indicate changes have been made.

The original sent message can still be viewed from the overflow menu under 'View details'. Google Messages on Android devices has started testing this feature in a beta version, but there is no word yet on when it will be available to all users.

Google's RCS chat service, Google Messages, is also testing message editing for some users. This would bring the app inline with other modern messaging services like iMessage and WhatsApp. The ability to edit a message is available only when both parties in the conversation have the functionality.

Users can edit messages within 15 minutes after sending them by long-pressing on a message and selecting the 'Edit' pencil button. Once editing is complete, users tap the 'Send' button to send the revised message. An 'Edited' label appears below the message to indicate changes have been made.

Google's work on letting you edit an RCS chat continues with some Messages users already seeing this capability. This would bring Google Messages inline with other modern messaging services like iMessage and WhatsApp.

Long-pressing on a message shows an 'Edit' pencil button next to copy, delete, star, and overflow in the top toolbar. This will place that RCS chat in the text field with Google noting how you're going to 'Edit message'. Once editing is complete, users tap the 'Send' button to send the revision.

According to @Jhowkira2000 on X/Twitter (via AssembleDebug, Android Police), you have 15 minutes after sending a message to make edits. If you catch the text in time, the revision will appear in the conversation thread, while the original message should be visible in the details section.

Google Messages is slowly starting to roll out an option to edit sent texts. The feature has been in development since at least February and is now available for some beta testers. Users can edit messages by long-pressing an RCS message and tapping the pencil icon that appears. When editing is complete, users tap the Enter button to send the edited message.

An Edited label appears below the message to indicate changes have been made, and users can edit messages within 15 minutes after sending them. The original unedited message can be seen in conversation details if anyone checks.

The article contains a few informal fallacies and an example of inflammatory rhetoric. It also assumes knowledge that iMessage is popular due to its editing feature without providing evidence or context for its popularity.

The author makes several valid statements about the new features being developed for Google Messages and compares it to other chat apps. However, there is an instance of an appeal to authority when the author mentions that 'even apps like WhatsApp don't have peek gesture support.' This statement implies that not having this feature makes WhatsApp inferior, but it does not necessarily mean that. The score is reduced because of this fallacy.
