Google is set to launch several new devices as part of the Pixel 9 series on August 13, including the base model Pixel 9 and multiple Pro variants. Among these is the highly anticipated Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a foldable device that aims to compete with industry leaders like Samsung.
According to various leaks and rumors, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will feature a full design reveal with images showing its inner display which no longer has thick bezels. This is a significant improvement over Google's first attempt at a foldable device, the Pixel Fold, which was criticized for its large top and bottom bezels around the inner display.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is expected to come in two colors: Obsidian and Porcelain. The design shares similarities with the OnePlus Open, including a wide and taller display on the outside that looks fairly similar to regular Pixel 9 models. However, unlike the OnePlus Open, which has an under-display camera, Google opted for a hole punch selfie camera in the corner of its inner display.
The base model Pixel 9 is also set to launch on August 13 and will come in four colors: Porcelain, Obsidian, Rose (or Raspberry), and Green. The device features a matte finish on the side rails and a glossy finish on the back.
Google has committed to releasing the Pixel 9 series after the success of its Pixel 8 lineup. Leaked roadmaps suggest that three models will be released in total: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and a smaller Pro model. The cost of the base model is expected to be around $799, while the price for the Pro variants is rumored to be around $1,799 for the foldable model.
Innovative software features are anticipated for Google's next foldable phone. With Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6 now on sale, Google will need to differentiate itself by offering unique features tailored specifically to foldable devices. The company is reportedly working on a project called 'Google Gemini,' which could potentially involve dual-screen technology or other innovative software solutions.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Pixel 9 series as we approach its official launch on August 13.
