Google has recently rolled out updates for its Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2, bringing new features such as improved wrist detection for users with tattoos, Car Crash Detection, and updated Fall Detection algorithms. The updates come as part of the June 2024 Feature Drop.
According to reports from various sources including 9to5Google and The Verge, the Pixel Watch is now on the June 5, 2024 security patch level with build number TWD9.240605.001.A1. The update includes improved wrist detection for users with tattoos on their wrists, Car Crash Detection for Pixel Watch 2 users, and an updated Fall Detection algorithm that better detects falls from bicycles.
Pixel Watch 2 owners can now benefit from Car Crash Detection, which notifies the user via an on-screen prompt after a severe car crash. If the user doesn't respond within a certain time frame, emergency services will be automatically contacted and informed of the user's location.
Both Pixel Watches have received updates to their Fall Detection algorithms. The updated algorithm is designed to better detect falls from bicycles, providing an additional layer of safety for cyclists.
Users can initiate the download process by tapping the 'Your watch is up-to-date' screen multiple times and disabling Bluetooth to force Wi-Fi for faster processing. OTA images can be found on various websites.
Google continues to close the feature gap between its Pixel Watch and competitors such as Apple Watch, with Car Crash Detection being a notable feature that has yet to be seen on a Wear OS watch.
It's important to note that these updates require location services, LTE service, or an internet connection via your phone. Fall detection is not available in every country at this time.
