A musical comedy titled 'Gwyneth Goes Skiing' is set to debut at the Pleasance Theatre in London this December. The production is based on the legal battle between actress and Goop founder, Gwyneth Paltrow, and retired optometrist, Terry Sanderson, over a ski collision. The incident, which took place in 2016 at the Deer Valley resort in Park City, Utah, led to a widely publicized legal battle in 2023.
The musical features original songs by American singer-songwriter Leland, known for his work with stars including Selena Gomez and on Ru Paul's Drag Race. The audience will play a unique role in the production, acting as the jury of the trial.
The cast includes Linus Karp, who will portray Paltrow, and Joseph Martin, who will play Sanderson. Sanderson initially sued Paltrow for $3 million, alleging that the collision left him with serious injuries, including broken ribs and lasting brain damage. However, after the suit was dismissed, he amended his claim to $300,000.
The musical aims to provide a humorous take on the legal drama, parodying the events of the trial and the media attention it garnered. Despite the comedic approach, the production does not shy away from the serious allegations at the heart of the case.
