Hurricane Beryl brought widespread power outages to Texas, affecting over 2.7 million customers mostly in and around Houston.
Entergy Texas and CenterPoint Energy are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Entergy Texas aims to restore 50% of impacted customers by the end of day on July 10, while CenterPoint Energy promises to have one million customers restored by the same date.
The storm caused significant damage, with over ten transmission towers knocked down and numerous trees falling into power lines. The aftermath has left many residents without power for days, leading to frustration and concerns about the utility companies' preparedness for such events.
Entergy Texas reported that approximately 189,000 customers were without power as of 8:30 p.m. on July 9. The company aims to restore power to half of these customers by the end of day on July 10 and expects to have restored three-quarters of them by the end of day on July 12.
The Woodlands Township is also dealing with power outages, fallen trees, and debris throughout their community. Residents are advised to report any potential hazards immediately and stay informed through The Woodlands Township's Alert Center, social media channels, and other resources such as the National Weather Service, Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management, and Harris County Office of Emergency Management.
The cleanup of storm debris is guided by Waste Management's specifications. Different guidelines apply for branches and large trucks/branches/construction debris.
Non-essential township services are suspended, with facilities such as Town Hall, The Woodlands Express bus service, Town Center Trolleys, Recreation Centers and more closed on Monday July 8th 2024.
Residents are advised to assess damages to their properties and report them to their insurance agent. Photographs of the damage should be taken before cleaning up.
