Apple introduces LockedCameraCapture API for third-party camera apps on Lock Screen
iOS 18 brings customizable Lock Screen options and a multicolor clock option
Users can display time in rainbow colors against their chosen wallpaper on the Lock Screen
iOS 18, Apple's latest operating system update, brings significant changes to the user experience. The new features include customizable Lock Screen options and a multicolor clock option.
Apple has introduced a new API called LockedCameraCapture that gives third-party camera apps special privileges when added to the Lock Screen. Developers can create an extension for their camera app that runs directly from the Lock Screen, showing the camera view immediately after user interaction without requiring authentication (Fact 1 and Fact 2 from the first source).
Additionally, iOS 18 allows users to display time in rainbow colors against their chosen wallpaper on the Lock Screen (Fact 3 from the second source). This multicolor clock option is currently limited to the Lock Screen and does not apply to widgets or other parts of the interface.
The new update also includes a redesigned home screen, customizable control center, locked and hidden apps, text messaging via satellite, and a huge redesign to the Photos app (Fact 4 from the third source).
It is recommended to update to the latest general release before installing developer betas. Back up your phone before installing iOS 18 beta (Fact 5 from the third source).
