The Boston Celtics have agreed to terms with star forward Jayson Tatum on a five-year, $314 million contract extension, making it the largest deal in NBA history. The extension begins in the 2025/26 season and will keep Tatum under contract with the Celtics through the 2029/30 season.
Tatum's impressive play on both ends of the court earned him a spot on the All-NBA First Team for a third consecutive year. In the previous season, he averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists with a .471/.376/.833 shooting line.
With Tatum's extension, the Celtics have secured three of their five starters - Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Derrick White - through at least the 2027/28 season. Boston's roster is projected to be one of the priciest in the league going forward but has its championship core under team control for the long term.
Tatum led the Celtics to their 18th NBA title in June, averaging 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists through the playoffs. He scored a career-high 31 points in Games 3 and 5 of the NBA Finals as Boston clinched the series against the Dallas Mavericks.
Tatum was drafted third overall by the Celtics in 2017 and has averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists through his career with Boston.
