Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night comedian, is set to host the 96th Oscars ceremony on March 10, 2024. This will mark his fourth time hosting the prestigious event, following his previous stints in 2017, 2018, and 2023. Kimmel's return to the Oscars stage was announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and broadcaster ABC.
The previous year's ceremony, which Kimmel hosted, saw a rebound in television ratings and was well-reviewed. The 2023 Oscars witnessed a 13% increase in viewership, attracting an average audience of 18.8 million viewers. One of the highlights of the ceremony was Kimmel being lowered onto the stage as two US Navy jets flew over the theater.
In addition to Kimmel's return, Molly McNearney, who has been nominated 11 times for her work on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! chat show, will serve as executive producer for the show. This will be her second consecutive year in this role.
The upcoming awards will feature films such as 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer', which are expected to be heavy favorites in the best picture race. The academy and ABC have also transformed the red carpet pre-show, enlisting consultants familiar with the Met Gala to cultivate a more elegant and orderly ambiance for celebrity arrivals.
