In recent days, there have been reports suggesting that US President Joe Biden may be considering dropping out of the presidential race. According to various sources, top Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have had conversations with Biden about his decision to continue running for re-election.
Quentin Fulks, Biden's principal deputy campaign manager, however, insists that the president is staying in the race and will be the Democratic nominee. Fulks emphasized that Biden has publicly stated his intention to run for another term and that the campaign is moving forward.
Despite these assurances, there are concerns about Biden's ability to continue serving as president due to his age and recent health issues. In June, Biden tested positive for COVID-19 and experienced mild symptoms while self-isolating. This diagnosis came after a highly criticized debate performance against former President Donald Trump.
Biden's campaign has also faced financial challenges, with major donors reportedly losing faith in his ability to win the election. The expected fundraising advantage that the Democratic Party once held has been erased by Trump's strong showing in the polls and on the campaign trail.
Some Democrats have gone so far as to call for Biden to step aside, citing concerns about his viability in November's election. Representative Adam Schiff was among those who made such a call, expressing doubts about Biden's ability to defeat Trump.
Former President Barack Obama has also reportedly urged allies to consider the possibility of replacing Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. However, there are no clear signs that Biden is willing to step down at this time.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) delayed a pivotal vote that would have made replacing Biden more difficult, indicating that they are still backing him for re-election. The DNC's decision came after reports of behind-the-scenes maneuvering among party leaders to push Biden from the race.
Despite these challenges, Biden has continued to campaign and has not indicated any intention of dropping out. His campaign is focusing on key races in Congress and making a vigorous effort against Trump's re-election bid.
