In an exclusive conversation for Variety's Actors on Actors series, Saturday Night Live (SNL) alumni Kristen Wiig and Jon Hamm reminisced about their time working together on the iconic sketch comedy show and in the film 'Bridesmaids.' During their candid discussion, they shared stories about quick changes, being naked alongside each other, and the chaotic beauty of live television.
Hamm, who has hosted SNL three times since 2008 and Wiig, a cast member from 2005 to 2012 with several hosting gigs since then, reflected on their experiences. They both agreed that quick changes during live shows can be an interesting experience.
During one of Hamm's hosting gigs, they had quick changes next to each other and were naked. Wiig recalled looking over and acknowledging seeing Thompson naked during her last hosting stint on SNL.
Hamm described the experience as 'goofing around' during a quick change next to Wiig, with both of them being naked and having clothes torn off by the crew. He added that it was only awkward because they had to submit to it and become mannequins for the process.
Wiig also shared her experience of having a quick change during her last appearance on SNL, where she looked over and saw Thompson doing the same thing. She noted that the 'in-between sketches' is where things get interesting, as it's such a beautiful dance to watch.
Both Hamm and Wiig have had their fair share of nudity in their careers. Hamm appeared in an uncredited cameo as a caddish bro who had a multiple-night stand with Wiig's character in Bridesmaids, which involved some raunchy gags saved for the last day of shooting.
Despite the awkwardness of quick changes and being naked on live television, both actors seemed to enjoy the experience. Hamm noted that it was a fun challenge and an essential part of working on SNL. Wiig agreed, stating that it's beautiful to see how everything comes together in such a fast-paced environment.
