Kylian Mbappe, the French soccer superstar, is officially joining Real Madrid after years of speculation and negotiations. According to multiple reports, Mbappe has signed a free transfer contract with Real Madrid and will be announced as a new player next week.
Mbappe's decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was made public in May when he announced that this would be his last season with the club. The 25-year-old forward grew up a fan of Real Madrid and took Spanish lessons to fluently speak the language, making his move to the Spanish soccer giant a childhood dream come true.
Real Madrid had a successful 2023-24 season, winning the Spanish La Liga, Supercopa titles, and the UEFA Champions League. With Mbappe joining Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham in Madrid's attacking trio, the team is poised to form a potentially historic group of players.
Mbappe's impact on soccer has been significant. He made his professional debut for Monaco at just 16 years old and quickly rose to prominence. In the 2018 FIFA Men's World Cup, Mbappe scored four goals and was named Best Young Player in the tournament after becoming the first male teenager to both score a brace in a World Cup match and score in the World Cup Final since Pelé.
Before joining Real Madrid next season, Mbappe will lead France into the 2024 Euros. He has expressed his desire to also represent France at the 2024 Paris Olympics but will need permission from Real Madrid to do so.
Real Madrid's acquisition of Mbappe comes after a disappointing 2023-24 season by their lofty standards. The addition of Bellingham last offseason propelled the team back to the top, and with Mbappe joining Vinicius Junior and Bellingham, Madrid looks set to continue its dominance in European soccer.
