Lewis Hamilton Secures Historic Win at the 2024 British GP in Silverstone
In a thrilling race marked by heavy rain and unexpected pit stops, Lewis Hamilton clinched his second victory of the Formula 1 season at the British Grand Prix held at Silverstone. This triumphant performance brought him a total of nine wins at this prestigious circuit, breaking Michael Schumacher's long-standing record.
The race began with George Russell securing pole position for Mercedes, followed closely by Hamilton and Max Verstappen in second and third place respectively. However, the unpredictable weather conditions forced several drivers to pit for Intermediates during the race. Among them were Norris, Lewis, and George in a stacked stop.
Despite these challenges, Hamilton managed to maintain his composure throughout the race and crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:29.438 minutes, setting a new fastest lap record. Russell retired from the race due to a suspected water system issue.
This victory marks an emotional milestone for Hamilton as he had not won since December 2021, ending his longest stint without a win in his career spanning over two years. The British GP triumph also brought him closer to Michael Schumacher's all-time record of 105 wins.
The Team, which includes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell as well as the Brackley and Brixworth factories, continues to showcase its dominance in Formula 1 racing. With this win, Mercedes secured a front-row lockout at Silverstone.
