Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after and began searching for survivors among the debris. Several people were pulled from under the rubble, some with injuries. The number of those trapped remains unknown.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed his condolences to those affected by the tragedy and offered all resources of the national government to local and regional leaders.
