A 34-year-old man, Yostin Andres Mosquera, has been charged with the murder of two men, Albert Alfonso (62) and Paul Longworth (71), whose remains were found in suitcases on Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol and at his address in Shepherd's Bush. The victims had previously been living together at their apartment in London.
The gruesome discovery was made on July 10, 2024, when police received reports of a man behaving suspiciously near the bridge. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already left the scene. Two suitcases were found nearby containing human remains.
Additional remains were discovered at the victims' apartment in Shepherd's Bush on July 12, 2024.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Mosquera had been staying with Alfonso and Longworth for a short period of time before the discovery of their bodies. The motive behind the murders is currently unknown, but there is no indication that they were motivated by homophobia.
Mosquera was arrested on July 13, 2024, in Bristol and charged with two counts of murder. He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court on July 15 and was remanded in custody until his next hearing at the Old Bailey on July 17.
The victims' families have been informed of the developments in the case, but no further details have been released.
Clifton Suspension Bridge, a popular tourist attraction and iconic symbol of Bristol, was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1864. The bridge spans the Avon Gorge and connects the city center with Clifton Village.
