Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, is reportedly in talks to sell a majority stake in the NBA franchise to the family that runs the Las Vegas Sands casino company, according to multiple sources. The deal, which is yet to be made public, is estimated to be worth around $3.5 billion. Despite the sale, Cuban is expected to retain control of basketball operations.

The potential buyer, Miriam Adelson, widow of casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, recently announced plans to sell $2 billion of Sands stock to fund the purchase. If the entirety of the $2 billion goes toward the purchase, it would mean Adelson could be acquiring at least 57% of the NBA team. However, there is no current indication of relocating the team.

Cuban will also reportedly remain the Mavericks' governor, representing the franchise at NBA owners' meetings. This comes after Cuban had expressed interest in partnering with Sands a year ago. He has been a proponent of legalizing gambling in Texas, a state where the issue failed to pass in the recent legislative session.
