Matty Healy, the frontman of The 1975, and model Gabbriette Bechtel have confirmed their engagement after nine months of dating. The news was first shared on social media by Bechtel's mother, Denise Welch, during an appearance on the UK daytime TV show Loose Women.
Healy and Bechtel were first linked in September 2023 when they were spotted together in New York City. They had been trying to meet for four years before finally connecting. The couple has since been seen attending events together and sharing affectionate posts on social media.
Bechtel was first spotted wearing the engagement ring in late May, and Healy reposted a photo of it on his Instagram account, confirming the news.
The two have been open about their relationship and have shared that they enjoy playing Fortnite together in bed and ordering takeout. Bechtel is also known for her food videos on social media and is working on a cookbook.
Healy ended his relationship with Taylor Swift three months before starting a relationship with Bechtel. Swift wrote about their past relationship in her 2024 album, The Tortured Poets Department, which surprised Healy.
The engagement comes after Healy wrapped the second leg of The 1975's North American tour in support of their critically acclaimed fifth album, Being Funny in a Foreign Language. He is currently writing for the follow-up album.
Healy and Bechtel have not yet announced any plans for a wedding.
