The Miami Dolphins have agreed to a three-year contract extension with wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, making him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL. The deal is worth $84.75 million with $76 million guaranteed.
Waddle, who was selected sixth overall in the 2021 draft, has had an impressive start to his career with the Dolphins. In his first three seasons, he has recorded 3,385 receiving yards and three straight 1,000-yard campaigns. Despite playing alongside Tyreek Hill, Waddle ranks 13th in the NFL in receiving yards since 2021.
The Dolphins have committed to keeping Waddle long term and have no thoughts of trading him. The extension was negotiated by Waddle's representation at WME Football.
Waddle set a rookie record with 104 receptions and had a career-best 1,356 yards in his first season under Mike McDaniel. In the following seasons, he continued to produce with consistent numbers despite battling injuries and expressing frustration with his performance.
The timing of Waddle's extension allows the Dolphins to avoid a potential increase in market value after extensions for other top receivers like Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase. It also comes before the team negotiates a contract extension for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who led the NFL in passing yards in 2023.
The Dolphins have now secured their top two receiving weapons with long-term deals, ensuring continuity and stability in their offense. Waddle's production on the field can help Tagovailoa secure a lucrative contract extension as well.
