Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson, 24, and two former high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, died following a fatal car accident in Upper Marlboro, Maryland on July 6th. According to reports from multiple sources including the Minnesota Vikings organization and local authorities such as Maryland State Police, the crash involved three vehicles. Jackson was a passenger in a Dodge Charger driven by Hazel when it was struck by another vehicle believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the Infiniti that struck the Charger is currently under investigation for potential involvement of alcohol in the crash, according to Maryland State Police. The identities and conditions of those in the third vehicle involved have not been released.
Jackson was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in April 2024 as a cornerback out of Oregon University. He had an impressive college career, starting all 12 games for the Ducks in his only season with them and earning first-team All-Pac 12 honors. Prior to that, Jackson played for two seasons at Alabama Crimson Tide.
The Minnesota Vikings organization released statements expressing their deep sadness and condolences to the families of all three victims. The team has offered counseling services to players, coaches, and staff affected by the tragedy.
Jackson's high school alma mater, Henry A. Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, also released a statement expressing their grief over the loss of one of their own. Jackson and Hazel were teammates during their time at Henry A. Wise High School.
The Minnesota Vikings community is in shock following this tragic news, as Jackson was seen as having a bright future ahead of him both personally and professionally.
