Motorola, the Chicago-based tech company owned by Lenovo, recently announced the release of two new foldable phones: the Razr Plus and Razr. These devices come with several upgrades from their previous models, including larger cover screens and improved cameras. The announcement was made at a launch event in Paris on June 26, 2024.
The Motorola Razr Plus is available in a range of colors, including pink – a nod to the original Razr V3 – and starts at $1,000. It features an upgraded Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chipset and 12GB of RAM. The new hinge design offers better dust resistance, making it more durable than its predecessor.
The standard Motorola Razr is priced at $699 and comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chipset and 8GB of RAM. It also features a new hinge design for improved durability.
Both models have larger cover screens, with the Razr Plus boasting a four-inch screen, while the standard Razr has a three-and-a-half inch cover screen. The inner displays are 6.9 inches and offer up to 120 Hz refresh rates for smoother scrolling and viewing experiences.
The Motorola Razr Plus also supports faster wireless charging at 45 watts, while the standard Razr has a slightly slower charging speed of 30 watts. Both devices have LTPO technology for better battery life and peak brightness on their displays.
In terms of cameras, the Motorola Razr Plus features a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization and a 2X optical zoom telephoto lens. The standard Razr has a 13-megapixel ultrawide secondary camera.
Motorola plans to launch Moto AI in the fall, which will include features like Catch me up for summarizing notifications and Pay attention for recording and automatic transcription. Both devices come with Motorola's Moto Tag, a Bluetooth-enabled device that can be used to locate lost items and works with any Android phone.
Unfortunately, both devices will only receive three Android OS updates and four years of security updates.
