In the heart of Bangkok, Thailand, an unsettling discovery was made at the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel on July 16, 2024. Six individuals were found dead in a single room, leaving authorities and investigators baffled as to the cause of their demise.
Two Americans of Vietnamese descent and four Vietnamese nationals were among the deceased. The victims had booked multiple rooms under seven names, with some occupants discovered on different floors from where they were found dead.
The initial investigation suggested that poisoning could be a potential cause of death. According to reports, there was no evidence of struggle or forced entry into the room. The occupants had checked out as scheduled but failed to do so in person, leading hotel staff to enter the room and make the grim discovery.
The bodies were found in a living area and one bedroom. All six individuals had their luggage packed, indicating that they were prepared to depart before their untimely deaths.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited the scene of the incident but did not provide any further information to the media. The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation, collecting evidence from the room and examining security footage for leads.
The Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel is situated in a bustling area of Bangkok's city center, opposite the famous Erawan Shrine. This tragic event has left many questioning the safety and security measures in place at hotels and other public spaces.
