New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers has agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $30 million, according to multiple reports.
Peppers, who joined the Patriots in April 2022 after playing for the Giants and Browns, had a standout season last year. He started all 17 games and recorded 78 tackles (56 solo), two interceptions, one sack, eight passes defended, one forced fumble, and a touchdown.
The extension comes as no surprise as the Patriots have been prioritizing re-signing their own players this offseason. Peppers is the latest addition to a list that includes Rhamondre Stevenson, Mike Onwenu, David Andrews, Hunter Henry, Kendrick Bourne, Kyle Dugger, Jahlani Tavai, Christian Barmore, Josh Uche and Anfernee Jennings.
Peppers was a versatile player during his college career at Michigan. He earned numerous awards including being a finalist for the Heisman Trophy in 2016 and was the first player in Big Ten history to win three individual awards: Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year, Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year, and Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year.
The Patriots defense will be glad to have Peppers back for another three years as he provides flexibility in playing various roles. He can play in the box, deep, and even take snaps in the slot or wide. With his ability to make plays all over the field, Peppers is a valuable asset to New England's defense.
