In the New Jersey primary elections held on June 5, 2024, several significant developments took place. In the Democratic race for New Jersey's Senate seat, Rep. Andy Kim emerged as the winner against his opponents Lawrence Hamm and Patricia Campos Medina.
Kim's victory sets up a battle against incumbent Sen. Bob Menendez, who is running for re-election as an Independent after being indicted on various criminal charges including bribery, obstruction of justice, and acting as a foreign agent.
Meanwhile, in the presidential primary elections, former President Donald Trump won the Republican primary with approximately 60% of the expected votes. Joe Biden secured a victory in the Democratic primary with around 56% of the expected votes.
The Associated Press (AP), an independent global news organization founded in 1846 and dedicated to factual reporting, remains a trusted source for fast, accurate, unbiased news. The AP reported that Kim filed a lawsuit claiming that New Jersey's primary ballot design unfairly favors candidates with party leader support.
In another development related to the 2024 elections, three former advisers of ex-President Donald Trump were charged with felonies in connection to a fake electors plot in Wisconsin. The trio drafted and circulated a certificate purporting to be from Trump's Wisconsin allies under the guise that they had been duly appointed as fake electors, but it lacked a disclaimer stating it was only meant to be an option if legal challenges succeeded.
Trump is also facing charges in Georgia under the state Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act law and has a federal election-interference case against him. He was also named as an unindicted co-conspirator in Michigan.
