The 2024 NFL Draft saw several sons of NFL greats being signed as undrafted free agents. Among them is Terique Owens, the son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens. Terique had an impressive college career at Missouri State, where he recorded 528 yards on 28 catches in 2023.
John Lynch, the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers, saw similarities between father and son during a local pro day. This was enough for the team to offer Terique a spot on their roster.
Terrell Owens spent eight years with the 49ers, where he was a three-time first-team All-Pro. He had a career-best 1,451 receiving yards with the team in 2000.
The Los Angeles Chargers also drafted Jerry Rice's son, Brenden Rice, in the seventh round. Rice had an impressive college career at USC and caught 45 passes for 791 yards in 12 games during the season.
Frank Gore Jr., the son of former NFL player Frank Gore, agreed to a contract with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent. Frank Gore Sr. played for the Bills briefly in 2019.
The 49ers have reportedly signed several other undrafted free agents including Cody Schrader (RB, Missouri), Drake Nugent (C, Michigan), Evan Anderson (DL, FAU), Mason Pline (TE, Furman), Tanner Mordecai (QB, Wisconsin) and Terique Owens.
The 49ers will continue to sign free agents after the draft.
