Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is recovering from a severe knee injury that required multiple surgeries and ended his 2023 season. The exact timeline for his return to the field is uncertain, but Chubb remains optimistic and focused on getting better.
Chubb suffered the injury during a Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers when he was hit by safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. The low hit drew criticism from some quarters, but Chubb has since stated that he does not hold Fitzpatrick responsible for the injury.
The Browns running back underwent his first surgery in late September to repair damage to his medial capsule, meniscus, and MCL. He had a second surgery in November to address damage to his ACL. General manager Andrew Berry reported that Chubb had started running on land by April.
Chubb's injury was a significant blow for the Browns, who were counting on him to continue his streak of over 1,000 rushing yards in each of the previous four seasons. The team has since brought in veteran running backs Nyheim Hines and D'Onta Foreman to help fill the void.
Despite the setback, Chubb remains upbeat about his recovery. He has drawn on his experiences from a similar injury he suffered at Georgia in 2015, which also involved multiple ligament tears. Chubb is confident that he will be able to return to form and contribute to the Browns' offense once again.
The Browns are expected to have a new offensive coordinator in Ken Dorsey for the 2024 season. Head coach Kevin Stefanski has expressed confidence in Chubb's ability to bounce back from injury and continue his productive career.
