The Memorial Tournament, one of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour, is set to take place at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio from June 6-9. This year's tournament promises to be an exciting one as nine out of the top ten ranked players in the world have confirmed their participation. The only notable absence is Jon Rahm, who has opted out due to his membership with the LIV Tour.
The tournament was originally scheduled for May but has been postponed by a week due to unspecified reasons. Despite this change, Jack Nicklaus, the tournament's founder and an Ohio State alumnus, remains optimistic about the event. He expressed his excitement about having most of the top players in attendance and emphasized that they are doing their best to cooperate with the PGA Tour.
Muirfield Village Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus himself, is known for its challenging layout. It demands strong iron play and long iron play at approach shots into smaller greens. The winner of this year's tournament will earn a hefty prize of $4 million from the total purse of $20 million and receive 700 FedEx Cup points.
Last year, Viktor Hovland emerged as the champion after an intense playoff against Denny McCarthy. He made a 30-foot birdie putt on the penultimate hole to force the playoff and eventually won it. This year, Hovland returns to defend his title alongside other notable players such as Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Aberg, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay and Max Homa.
